The Mind of a 5 Year Old......

So.....
I haven't had a sip of coffee and have barely been out of bed 4 minutes when Josh says

"Hey Mom!  Remember when I threw sand and it got in my eye."

"No,"  I said.

"Yeah, back when we liked at our old house in G town?"

"Yeah"

"Well, don't worry.  I got it out.  See?!"

Insert eye roll.

Oh how the mind of a 5 year old works!

Siblings.....

Found this and nearly fell off my chair laughing.

It seems to hit home at my house (Josh and Macey) this past couple of days.

Good Enough....

Some days......

Some days, I feel like a rock star Mom.

Some days, it's all I can do to keep from eating my young.

And some days, be happy that everyone has pants on.  (Underwear is a plus, but not required-ask Josh!)

Today was one of those days.  And it's not even over yet!

There was an Easter egg hunt in our town at 10 am.

No biggie.

Wasn't TRULY set on going, but then the kids started acted like monkeys, and I knew that if we were to make it to Tulsa tomorrow, we needed to get out of the house.....STAT!

So before we go to the hunt, I still have to pack for Tulsa.  Pack the hubby and two kids, plus myself and a dog.

No biggie.

Yeah right.  So as I'm packing, the kids are barely watching cartoons-the one thing I wish they'd sit down and be quiet and do.

Josh is pestering Macey.....which he loves to do sometimes.

And Macey is squealing at Josh.....which she loves to do ALL the time.

Now, don't get me wrong.  There are times when they play SOOOO well together.

Today, was not one of those days.

So at 9:55 we screech in the car and gun it down the road.

Macey is yelling at me to go faster.  Josh is yelling slow down so I don't get pulled over by the police.

I tell him I'm not going THAT fast.  (Which I wasn't.)

We hurry to the hunt, park illegally, and run up to the starting line, literally as they blow the horn.

They had ages 0-3 in one spot and 4-5 in another.

So I happened to see a friend from my Mom's group here in town and ask if Macey can stay with her.

She is so kind and of course says yes.  Macey was good with staying with her too!  No tears, no fights, just me walking off to take Josh to his age division.

Josh and I walk up right as the horn blows....which was unsettling to him.

He scrambles off and finds 5 eggs and comes back crying.  He wants me to hunt eggs with him.

Um.....no honey.  Mommy put on clean pants today and that's all the energy I have.  Done.

So we leave to go find Macey.

Macey got 8 eggs, which causes Josh to cry even more.  (He's so competitive.)

My friend was so on top of her game, she even took a couple of pics of Macey.

Heck.  I'm glad we at least showed up.

And we all had clean pants on.

Meetings......

I thought I gave up meetings when I gave up teaching.

Now my meetings revolve around the toilet.  Everyone comes when Mommy potties.

In fact, I read a book about "I Just Want To Pee Alone".  It was fantastic!  (It was Mommy Humor.)

But....

the real reason for this post is.....

we went to Josh's first REAL OFFICIAL Kindergarten meeting!

I thought I would be ready.

I thought it would be great.

One less kid in the house.

Add one....take one to school.

P-E-R-F-E-C-T

or so I thought.

We went to Kindergarten Round-Up today.

It was during nap time.

Macey did well playing on the floor with her princesses and her purse.  (And just for the record....if Macey would've come first and Josh was second...he would've NEVER sat as still and quiet as she did!)

Josh left us after 5 minutes.  They took the kids for a tour (I think) and then to their classrooms to hear a story and sing songs and play!  Not their actual class, but just split the up into the Kindergarten rooms.

Meanwhile, the parents got to hear the important stuff.  Like when screening is, when school starts, how it works (he'll only go 1/2 day for 6 weeks then a FULL DAY!)

THIS MAMA ISN'T READY.

Maybe it's the hormones making baby #3.

Maybe it's because I missed MY naptime.

But my sweet and consoling husband couldn't W-A-I-T to get out of there.

He literally fast-walked to the car while the kids ran to keep up with him.

And we get home and he says....

"All I got to say is....you better not have this baby during all those meetings in August.  Cuz I'm not going to 'em!"

That'a way honey!

And here's a snapshot of him....

Model parent, eh?!?

However...there was an upside to the whole thing!

Josh went with the swarm of kids (left my side) easily and after it was all over...he said he loved it!

We were trying to explain the timing of how he'll finish Miss Patti's class, summer break, new baby, then Kindergarten.

Then Chad threw in T-Ball during summer break.  And Chad said it would be the most fun thing all year.

And Josh-without missing a beat-said "No Dad.  Kindergarten is MUCH funner!"

That's my boy!

Now.....only 4 more months for Mommy to get a grip on it.....

It's amazing how the bag you carry has to do with what stage in life you are in.

For instance...
  • your purse usually gets bigger as you get older.  Then at some point declines in size again.
  • the size of your diaper bag is directly related to the age of your child.  (The younger the kid-the bigger.)
This is also true for cars and stroller.

It all starts off with a single stroller.

Then you move to a double stroller.

Then...with kid #3....

your choices are either this
or this:

I'm leaning towards the camel.
